provide the people who live here would like us to leave. they want to return some normalcy and that begs that question, when we do go, when we leave this town and when our world continues, we leave all of these people with a brand-new normal and something they're going to have to figure out for themselves what their new normal is going to be like. and i just want to share an anecdote. moments ago a man by the name of joe whalen came here to meet me by the creek and seen the piece run today on cnn. he lives in town not far away. he's a general contract, builds homes in the community. he was so moved by that notion that once we all leave, they will be left alone with their new normal. he didn't know what to do. he said i want to do something. i don't know what to do. and ultimately he came up with a plan and he shared it with me moments ago. he's going to go around town to all of those affected by the tragedy and with some of his colleagues in the building business, he's going repair their homes. whatever he sees needs doing he's going to do it and he's not going to ask for anything in ret

. charlotte bacon was six years old. she was wearing a new pink dress and boots and holiday outfit. she begged her mom to wear it to school that day. her big brother was also at school that day. we're told he made it to safely. her uncle said she could light up a room. we'll also remember daniel barden, 7 years old. he was a budding athlete. he swam, played soccer, was missing two front teeth. his family called him fearless. we will remember olivia engel as well, just six years old, she played tennis and soccer. was a ballet dancer and a patient big sister to her 3-year-old brother. she loved school, colors pink and purple and was going to be an angel in the nativity play scheduled for just last night. we will remember 7-year-old josephine gay as well. she turned 7 on tuesday. she too loved the color purple. her neighbors are hanging purple balloons from mailboxes and fences in her memory. we will remember her. we'll also remember ana marquez-greene, 6 years old. she grew up with music in her ears, her dad plays jazz saxophone and flute. he wrote a song about her entitled ana grace. we'll also

into effect. people aren't going to be happy about that, and the president will be able to say, look, i begged them, i repeatedly said 98% of the american public, they wouldn't get a tax increase if we just took them out of the equation, let's pass legislation extending the bush tax cuts for everyone earning under $250,000 a year. they didn't do it. so, you know, he'll have some leverage on that in terms of the politics because politically, you know, the polls all are very consistent. the election results are pretty consistent. the american public is ready for a modest increase in taxes for the upper 2% of taxpayers. having said that, there's another issue that's coming up in february or march and that's raising the debt ceiling once again. the republicans have a lot of leverage on that right now because the white house, the administration will desperately want to raise that debt ceiling so the u.s. doesn't go into default. that could undermine u.s. creditworthiness, u.s. interest rates, all that kind of stuff, and the republicans will have some serious leverage there down the road. both sides

in the fact that, for instance, the parent community is so strong. there was never a time we had to beg for volunteers. we had sometimes to turn volunteers away because it was such an engaged community. the staff, the teachers -- everyone says, well, teachers love their children, and that's very true, but in sandy hook you never doubted that this staff was committed to every child, no matter their ability rate, and that they were very focused on making sure that every child succeeded. our motto at sandy hook was all children can and will learn well, and the teachers took that very seriously. so for me as a parent and as someone who worked in the school as a regular volunteer, it was a place of joy and love. and to imagine those little children having that violated in all of us, this ripples out beyond who's in the school today. the college kids that used to go to sandy hook, they're devastated. they're out there talking, trying to figure out what to do next. they're becoming activists in different areas. for this to happen to this school that was so connected through the years, not just

economy, aren't adversely impacted because people can't do their jobs. >> so that begs the question, hall. how are other countries preparing for this really precarious situation and one in which they really have no control. >> well, martin, there's not much they can do to prepare. what will happen, if the fiscal cliff turns out to take place, is that we'll start to see the economy beginning to slide. the first thing that has happened already is that a lot of small businesses and other companies have been holding back on spending, and on hiring people. because they're worried about the tax rate increase. but starting in january 1st, we're going to start seeing things like payroll taxes going up, we're going to see other taxes starting to come into place that will be very difficult for some people. but that's only the beginning. in february, we're going to have to deal with the debt crisis. and the debt ceiling. and that's going to be an issue that will make the economy even more unstable. and by may and april, we're going to start to see things like estimated taxes increase and the governm

begs a question. the u.s. has actually spoken of the move of chemical weaponry before, but this, officials are saying, is different. tell us why. >> well, it's different because the intelligence information that is coming out, the data, shows moving apparently these weapons or supplies, and they have done that before, but the way they are doing them, it's different, and it's kind of a new activity, i guess you could call it, which might indicate some type of move toward deploying the weapons. it's a little murky, of course, right there. you heard secretary clinton not wanting to get into intelligence issues, as you can imagine, but there is a heightened concern, and that is one of the reasons that when she was asked about it during this brief -- during this presser in prague, she was very, very serious in her response. >> yeah. no. i heard earlier that they tend to keep the chemical -- the chemicals separate from the delivery systems, the rockets, the mortars, and it looks like they are bringing the two together, which is worrying, but the syrian government playing it all down.
